Major work at Linkshouse

Oh, my it’s been a while since my last post!

The days are lengthening significantly now here in Westray and the weather has been grand of late. Sooo…

Rather than “playing in the workshop” we’ve been doing some fairly major building work. There is an old semi-derelict shed built onto the back of our house that had a stone roof with holes in it and some woodworm-damaged trusses. It also had a damaged stone wall in the middle to make it into a two-room shed. Actually, according to the “Fae Quoy to Castle” book documenting the properties of Westray, way back this was a dwelling built onto the house by one of the original occupant’s sons somewhere around 1890! The front shed wall was also largely missing.

We decided to completely remove the roof and the middle wall, and cean up the largely missing front wall and then make good.

That’s all the demolishion work done bar from tidying up. I can’t believe how much stone this threw up!

I’ll do a follow-up post shortly showing the completed work.
