The other day, it was chucking it down in Westray, and the workshop had a roof leak just in front of the location of my shiny new laser!

Above is an old photo of the workshop with the ceiling in place.
I was aware that because of the ceiling insulation, where the leak was coming out of the ceiling was not necessarily where water was coming in through the roof. With this in mind, I removed a section of the ceiling to reveal the roof.
What this revealed worried me far more than the leak; the roof trusses were badly burnt!

This prompted me to remove more of the ceiling, only to discover that all of the roof trusses are similarly burnt.
It has been a stinker of a summer (in a good way), and I can only surmise that the insulation, along with the heat from the sunny days, resulted in the void above the ceiling reaching dangerously high temperatures. I suppose I shouldn’t be too surprised, as my reason for installing the insulation in the first place was not to keep the workshop warm. but rather because it became unbearably hot in summer.
This could so easily have gone horribly wrong!
I spent the best part of yesterday removing all of the remaining ceiling.
I must say, working in there today, it is so light and airy with the natural light through the polycarbonate roof.
I’ll just need to think of some way to ventilate/cool the workshop come next summer.
