Over the last few weeks I’ve been trying out different projects with my new laser. My first project, for my workshop, was a little bottle rack to hold small bottles of wood stain/dye. This worked out so well I made three more!

These were cut out of 3mm plywood.
I was pretty pleased with how well the laser cut these so I wanted more plywood. Being the impatient type that I am I couldn’t wait for an online delivery so I ordered a couple of 8’x4’ sheets of 1/8” (3.2mm) plywood from Jewsens in Kirkwall. I cut these up into 400-300mm sheets ready for the laser. They’ve worked well for signs and flat or layered projects. Besides being quicker delivery it worked out considerably cheaper than 3mm laser ply. Unfortunately many of the 3d patterns (Lanterns, houses etc.) available online are drawn for 3mm ply and this gives problems with the assembly tabs as they’re too thick for the corresponding holes when using thicker ply.
I guess I’ll just have put my hand in my pocket and order some more 3mm laser ply online.
Here are some of the things I’ve made –
